hey natalie.

i have been a huge fan of your music over the years. your songs have had such depth and soul and sung so elegantly.

however, i am very disappointed with your new album Come To Life. i give 5 reasons for this below.

1. only having 10 album tracks instead of the previous 12 is quite weak considering you have had over 4 years to make this album.
2. the 2 leaked tracks 'my god' and 'scars' are -in my opinion- weak, forgetful album tracks that i'm disappointed to c have made the final cut.
3. 'wild about it' and more importantly 'want' are forgetful, weak and non-catchy dance tunes.
4. i applaud you changing your sound and developing as an artist but producing repetitive dance tracks that lack the soul and depth of shiver is a step down, reducing your standard as a writer. for example, the chorus of want whines on with no direction in contrast to the power driven bridge and chorus of shiver.
5. album cover is very superficial considering the creativity behind left of the middle and even better white lillies island.

i admire you natalie as a performer. even though i disagree with 4 of the 10 album tracks, i will definitely give the other 6 a chance.

1. I don't understand how you can think 'My God' and 'Scars' are weak, forgetful songs, especially Scars? Have you seen/heard the new version on youtube that she's performs? It's bloody amazing, easily a single.

2. We don't know that that is the official cover of 'Come to Life' I've seen other pictures for Come to Life that Natalie has signed.
Superficial??? How is that picture superficial or any different from any album cover she's had so far? It's just a picture of her, like Counting Down the Days and White Lilies Island.
Natalie Imbruglia is one of the most unsuperficial artists I know =S

3. How you think the White Lilies Island album cover is better than the mirrors with Left of the Middle is beyond me, WLI is just her sat on a bed....

4. You can't say your dissapointed with her new album because its not even been released.

My response to MattAE,

1. I never claimed to prefer White Lillies album cover over Left of the Middle. I think they are equally good. Yes, you are right, the whole mirrors thing on Left O.T.M is amazing. But also is the interior sketches and drawings on W Lillies Island! I hope that creativity continues on this cover.

2. My God and Scars have warmed on me. The new version of scars is edgy and dark. Im likin it more. Thanks for pointing me towards it.

3. I maintain my opinion of Want and Wild About It. They are boring, repetitive, un-catchy and weak. A huge fall from the standards of Shiver, etc....How Want was co-written by Chris Martin suprises me. He'd never include such a poor song even on a Coldplay album. He's done her a hinderence rather than a favour with that track. Do u really like Want?

4. Considering i hate the lead single Want and album closer Wild About It, and i am only warming to album tracks Scars and My God now, i am reasonably allowed to not be to obtimistic about the album with 6 tracks to listen to. As i said, only 10 tracks on the album worries me. Is that all she can come up with? We deserve 12 at least to get our moneys worth. And quality over quantity doesnt stand for me so far.

5. I love Nat, im excited for the other 6 tracks. Im allowed to be disappointed. Again, i applaud her new sound, and growth as an artist. I miss the old days and worry the new change will be her downfall. Who knows? I could be wrong!

1. I apologise about the misunderstanding in regards to preference of album cover. I personally don't like the sketches in White Lilies Island, I think it just looks messy, chaotic and a bit cliché to be honest.

2. Glad you're warming to Scars, have you listened to Fun? WYUT? Cameo? - they are all amazing new songs too.

3. About 'Want', I partly agree with you, but mainly because I find the chorus repetitive, I generally really like the electronic sound of the song, the verse has a cool steady beat with some great (string instruments?) in the background. I love the dance-like synth inbetween verses and chorus'. I wish the synth was heavier! That would rock.

I am slightly concerned about how well it will do, but I have faith, and I'm REALLY intruiged as to what the video will be like, it has potential.
Videos are so important now in this day and age, they go hand-in-hand with audio, so I really hope the video kicks ass and shows off the song!!

4. The number of songs on the album doesn't bother me to honest =/ I'm just really happy and grateful she's still going.

The images on the website (the lighting, the coposition, her stance/look), all seem to fit the project more. I was very excited the placeholder image here I assumed was the "official" cover. I just assumed there was no text on the front of the cover which is striking (but it's always wise to have one on front), and the mood the image conveys and the feeling it creates suite the songs on the album so much more than the horrible Official album cover. The new Official cover is quite possibly the worst album cover, as the title is barely discernable or legible, and the imagery and mood created by the photo do not suite the songs at all. Want is quite dark and has quite alot of tumultuous feeling about it, and this new civer art does not reflect the sound or direction of the album. Sad really, as it loses it's impact, and that (the imagery) is the first thing consumers see when they see the album.

Not long now to the official release of the album. I am actually excited despite my pessimism and reservations. I hope it does well. Want could really be a hit if it is played in clubs. And lets hope the radio supports her well. When is the official video released for Want? I'm dying to see it. I hope we are surprised with a special edition of the LP in time with possibly extra tracks. Even Nat's b-sides back in the day are class. I've briefly heard some album tracks on u tube but am saving hearing the proper recorded versions.

Mattee: yeah the messy WLI booklet was more of a rushed job, but I only loved That Day! Twilight; yes not long now the album is going to rock, I think it may do well - more than CDTD did, but not the sales of LOTM! Hey Natalie,

thanks for releasing your album in Europe first. I don't know why, but it is already available here!! Cool he! It's simply the best you've ever made!! I like the album on the whole line (usually there are songs that you don't like that much). Favourites are 'fun'(very emotional one),' Lukas', 'twenty'(amazing song, can't get it out of my head), 'scars' but also 'all the roses' which made me swallow a few times. It gave me chills, and the pianomelody is really beautiful. It's an inspiration to keep myself going with writing/playing music. Very very beautiful songs!! Wish I could write like that! Congratulations!, it's definitely worth a long wait for!! It's a N1!!!!!!

Well, I have to admit that is the first time I sign up on a music website to leave a comment. But as you are my favourite pop singer, I wanted to give my point of view on your new album.

So, I will speak for my own parish (sorry if my english's not correct, but hard for me to translate our French expressions).

The first time I heard you was on the radio in 1997, with "Torn", your most successful single in France. I loved the video, I mean, there is something really emotionnal inside, something "real", not superficial like some other artists I know.

Then, years went by and I fell totally in love with "Wrong Impression". It's hard for me to describe what your work expresses, but I know for sure it is something deep. To me, your music was both emotionnal and cerebral until then.

I've followed the line with "Counting Down The Days". Despite the fact I hardly accustom myself at first with "Shiver", I've learned to appreciate your work after several listenings. "Shiver", altought I didn't especially like it first, had that something that pushed me to look beyond. And I admit I was and I'm absolutely not disappointed;

I've always bought your albums until now (never bought singles - waste of money if the song's on the album), but "Come to Life" means a stop to me. As "Wild about it" doesn't seem to be aired on French radios (or maybe just a little, because I've never heard it until now - always "Torn"), I ask one of my friends to lend me your new album.

After several listenings, I think that borrowing his album was the most intelligent thing I did last times. It's hard for me to write these words, but Nat, I'm absolutely disappointed with "Come To Life". There is nothing Imbruglia inside to me, it sounds like... like... nothingness. It is so pop, so commercial (nothing against this aspect, except when I consider the artist is worth more than a simple "easy-listening" artist).

Only two songs play their cards right to me, "Wild about it" and "All the Roses".

But after three excellent albums like LOTM, WLI and CDTD, and after nearly four years of hiatus, I expected more than a best-of album (after only 3 albums...) and a "Come to Life" thing, with a cover where you appear over-made up and so ribband... And the title is so... simple ! If I didn't know it was you, I would have believe it was a Mariah Carey album - known for her soppy albums and songs titles.

I read Chris Martin helped you for this album. I don't think he returned you a service... So please, don't collaborate with him anymore !

However, I am somebedy honest, and I want to temperate my point of view. You still are a worthy artist to me, I mean, there's something in you I can't find in most pop-rock artists nowadays (except Gemma Hayes maybe) and I know you can do better. No one on earth is flawless, and failures are sometimes necessary to know where we don't want to go.

I think you are still looking for your "crenel" (is that the right word ?). You can't go back to any of your previous album, and since Torn, success is not at the rendez-vous like before. In France for example, you remain the one who sang Torn, but little of my compatriots know your next work.

I'm not an expert in music things, so I won't give any advices, but please, don't head yourself towards bit**y styles like all pop female artists nowadays who don't know what to do better. Keep your head high despite the clouds. There's always a rainbow somewhere after the rain.

Still believe in you, and waiting for the next album. I've waited 4 years, I can wait a bit longer if it deserves it.

I think CTL is a great album. After reading the initial promo, I was expecting something more electro, but was pleasantly suprised to hear it was half the acoustic style we're used to, and half a new style. I like all the songs, but All The Roses is my favourite; very haunting.
